Covers of color

Getting to the cover art stage has made me curious about YA book covers depicting people of color. I've even started collecting covers on a pintrest board--it's interesting to see them together, actually.

Check it out here: http://pinterest.com/nandinibajpai/one-hundred-ya-book-covers-of-color/
Have you seen a cover I haven't pinned yet? Let me know in the comments, and I'll add it in!

Love this board! How about Karen Kincy's Foxfire?

Great board!

I humbly suggest the covers of my two YA books, FAIR COIN and QUANTUM COIN:

Blushingly, how about my FUNNY MAN (finalist MN Book Award YA Fiction), FUNNY MAN GETS ROLLING, and CLUBHOUSE THREAT?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. FYI I'm adding covers pubbed in the last five years or so. Keep them coming!

I love this idea! I've seen people do stats and roundups per year, but I like the idea of a visual collection, too. Maybe it will show people a) that these faces are diverse in that they all differ from each other, not just that they differ from white faces and b) they don't look all that different from white YA covers, so publishers should stop being scared. Good luck! I'll have to come back when I think of some covers. Definitely bookmarking for now!

I'm not sure if you're only looking for photographs, but these are everything YA on my goodreads shelf currently that might pass muster: Black Boy, White School by Brian F. Walker; If I Tell by Janet Gurtler; Nation by Terry Pratchett; Amiri and Odette by Walter Dean Myers; Monster by Walter Dean Myers; Toning the Sweep by Angela Johnson; The Queen of Water by Laura Resau; Three Witches by Paula Jolin; The Return by Sonia Levitin; Shabanu by Suzanne Fisher Staples (kind of straddles YA and MG). Cindy Pon and Malinda Lo aren't updating anymore, but you might find other titles at their still-available diversityinya.com
