Sadly, my last post proved to be a tad optimistic. I thought I was prepared for NaNoWriMo. Ha! I had no idea what was coming at me.
Here's what: The night before Halloween my son spiked a high fever. Instead of trick-or-treating he was laid up on the couch, too sick even to hand out candy. The fever didn't go down for the next few days, and then a chest x-ray finally confirmed pneumonia.
To make things worse, the Halloween noreaster dumped a foot of snow on us and knocked out cable TV, the sole solace of our sad little invalid.
And finally, the Scrivener for Windows release I was looking forward to was pushed back from Oct 31st to Nov 7th. Dang!
Between the doctor's office, the pharmacist, the making and ministering of various comfort foods, a week's worth of seventh grade schoolwork to make up at home, the other kid's schedule etc., absolutely nothing got done. Even the poor dog had to make do with hurried on-leash trots around the neighborhood. End result as far as NaNo: 800 words instead of 9000.
However, the week of misery is now at an end. Both kids are back in school. I've installed my brand new copy of Scrivener. My fellow NaNo'er Heather and I have booked a sunny study room at our town library, and managed to pound out our daily word counts. Heather even joined Yogi and me for our morning walks around Lake Waban, where Yogi romped, unleashed, in carpets of crunchy fall leaves. And the snow? That's gone too.
Hope you didn't hit any slumps in your NaNo wordcount!

Oh Noooooo! I'm so sorry your first week went so poorly. I remember one year when, on the first day of NaNo, my laptop crashed. Literally. I had it on top of the kitchen counter and it fell. The monitor cracked into a million shards. I was devastated!
Thankfully I have an understanding hubby and I promptly had a new laptop by the end of the week and I was able to catch up to my word count goals.
Here's wishing you much luck and progress in the second week!
Ouch!! Hope you didn't lose any writing? What a wonderful guy you've got, Christy, to get you a laptop that quickly.
I did spill tea on my keyboard and almost killed my laptop (also last week--what a week, huh?) but it was revived by my not so understanding husband. (He laughed at me!) But he also brought the thing back, so I guess I can't complain.
Good luck with week two too!
Good luck Nandini! Glad to hear your boy is better and life is getting back to normal!!! Are you working on the Great Big Indian Wedding?? You are an AMAZING writer. You can do it!!
Hi Kiki! Thanks for the vote of confidence :) I'm plugging away at the wedding story, as you guessed. Getting a lot of words down, just hope they're good.
P.S. I'll put your interview up on EI this week. Come check it out, OK?
So glad to hear your son is feeling better and your creative writing juices are flowing.I'll pop over to the Enchanted Inkpot and read your interview with Kiki.
How was the 2nd week of NaNo?
So good to hear from you, Tina! Week Three was great, but now the other kid is sick. And her birthday is tomorrow :( Thanks for checking out the interview with Kiki. I haven't had time to get the word out, what with my Kiki sick and all.
Hope you're all well!!
