Jim Corbett National Park - Tiger sighting!!!

Four hours of hurtling down the mountain from Nainital to the Corbett park. Thirty six kilometers of bumping along a jungle track. A total of five hours of tooling around the woods by jeep and (my favorite) on elephant -- all for one lucky five minute glimpse of a wild tiger. And it was totally worth it!! I didn't really come with an expectation of seeing one, it was enough to know they were out there somewhere, but it sure feels awesome! In case you're wondering; that elephant hasn't fallen over, she's having a bath. They love to lie down in the water! I took so many blurry pictures in Corbett, but my one shot of the tiger turned out PERFECT!

WOW! Nandini! Those pictures are SO awesome! I can't believe you and your family are riding elephants across India!! Talk about inspiration for a book!! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Thanks, Vijaya. We're definitely in Jim Corbett land (Nainital, Kumaon hills)!

Kiki, you would love the place we're staying--a Scottish castle in the Himalayas--talk about out of place! It has the most amazing architecture and is filled with antiques. If the wifi wasn't so erratic I'd post pictures ... soon.

What an incredible picture that is, Nandini. A tiger sighting, and in the Kumaon Hills at that.

Thanks, Uma. We were very lucky. Since then I've met quite a few people who have been to Corbett multiple times without a sighting.

The pictures are amazing Nandini. I was just browsing through Google to look for few of the best places to visit near National Capital Region in India. When I came across your blog link describing your Neemrana Visit. I was compelled by the thought to plan a visit as the way you have described the complete thing. It sounds to be a great place for relax, fun and adventure.Kudos to your post and I would likely to make a visit soon to Neemarana fort.Bingo the way you have described.I would like to follow your blog posts more on a regular basis to keep learning more about places.I have been to Panna National Tiger Sanctuary. You were lucky to get your roads crossed by the Jungle king -" Tiger".We missed out the sight when we were there at Panna Tiger Sanctuary in Satna district(M.P).I hope you are on Pin Interest. Thanks for the nice post!!!
