Books, books, books ...

These are the MG/YA books I've read since Jan.

Savvy – Ingrid Law
The Underneath – Kathi Appelt
The Hunger Games –Suzanne Collins
Twisted – Laurie Halse Anderson
Prom - Laurie Halse Anderson
Red Glass – Laura Resau
A Curse as Dark as Gold – Elizabeth Bunce
Chains - Laurie Halse Anderson
39 Clues 1, 2 & 3
Monsoon Summer – Mitali Perkins

I may have forgotten a few.

This is more than my usual stack when I'm in the middle of a 1st draft. But the kids have been home a lot (flu, more flu, feb vacation, snow day) and I can't write with noise in the background without turning into a cranky Momzilla. So the time when the kids are home is best spent reading instead of writing, for all concerned.

Got to go! The library just e-mailed that my requested copy of Winnie's War is waiting! If only I could fold laundry and read at the same time ...

I read 4 on your list and loved them! I'm going to the library too to get my copy of The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. Am excited!

I read a few of your selection within the last 6 months too. Did you know Laura Resau lives in the same town as I?

BTW, I am curious to know what you think of The Underneath.

Hi Ello, I've been planning to get The Thief, it sounds awesome!

Yat-Yee, Really? I loved Red Glass and have been looking for What the Moon Saw. I have the full of RISHI with her agent right now ... and my fingernails are all chewed off.

The Underneath--I really enjoyed it. The language is so beautiful and that forest almost feels like a character. I thought Gar-Face and the abuse he inflicts (and faces) was a bit mature for mid-grade readers though (at least for my 10 year old).

BTW - The tree, the pot, the waiting for a 1000 years (all things that show up in RISHI, as you might remember) had me a bit dazed in the beginning ... but it's different, thank goodness.

Oh, Nandini, that's great news about Rishi!

I know the feeling when you read something in a book that is in yours as well. It was like that what I first read Good Enough by Paula Yoo; you know, Oriental (don't like that word, BTW) writer, music etc.

Yat-Yee,
I don't like oriental either! I much prefer Asian or South Asian or something.
And take a deep breath and say it with me ... all our stories are unique. Repeat. :)

Good for you -- I've got to read more of these; I am so behind it's pathetic.

I'm so proud: I can read and fold laundry at the same time. (Just don't come and look at the stuff I've folded, that's all...)

Mary, I'm impressed! I've been wondering if I can fit a hardback on my son's music stand ...
