Fat puri

Happiness is a fat puri. When you’re rushing to finish cooking so that the pooja can be done, the diyas lit, the sparklers enjoyed, and you’ve already spent the whole day cleaning, decorating, and escorting the brats to High School Musical 3 – then you need something like this to happen.

As any puri maker will tell you, they don’t all inflate into happy little balloons of delicious crispiness. Some of them stay stubbornly flat, or get too brown on one side. But yesterday when I slid each flat rolled circle of dough into hot oil … TA DA … they all inflated. Sometimes that’s all you need to get back into the holiday spirit.

Happy Diwali everyone!

Hello World!

It’s been a while since I blogged. We had house guests (my sis, her husband and three kids!) so I was off doing touristy things in places like New York and Nantucket. Not my normal beat, but you have to do these things for folks that visit from overseas. It was fun! The kids all bonded though they hadn’t seen each other for two years. It was great to catch up with my sister – except it was too short. Feels like a total blur now that they’ve left. Oh well, (sigh!) moving on.

I’m thinking of expanding my query process for Karmic Cat. I only sent it to three agents, of which two rejected (one after a partial) and one never responded. I feel it’s my fault for not researching their preferences properly. But whatdoIknow? I still learning about how this whole publishing industry thing works! Maybe I should wait to hear from The Editor (who has now had the ms for nearly three months) before querying any more agents ...

Meanwhile I have an AWESOME idea for a new book that I can’t wait to get started on. Except I have a short story deadline for Nov 1st and a couple of critiques I owe people to do first.

Good news – My sis signed a movie deal with Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment for her book! How cool is that?!

White Tiger ...

Did you know that the Man Booker award winner i.e.
